Craig Smith, holds a one shot lead at Monmouth

Craig Smith, formerly of St Mellons, but now based in Abu Dhabi, holds a one shot lead after day one of the South Wales Open at the Rolls of Monmouth today. Smith whose one-under par round of 71 could have been better, as he made the turn at three under par, only to lose two shots on the back nine, leads from Newent's Ian Brown, a former member at the Rolls estate, who carded a level par round of 72. Brown too lost shots coming back, after getting to two under par on the front nine.

The leading pair will go out in the final three-ball on Friday with Aberdare's Ryan Thomas who's a further two strokes back after a round of two over par 74
